Our Mission

 

To provide supportive services to survivors of crime in a manner that empowers the individual as they address the impact of the harm done to them. The program believes that supporting and strengthening crime victims also strengthens and restores balance to the Hoopa Valley Tribal Community.

We understand that you may have many questions, pain and emotions after a crime was committed to you. Our program offers confidential, non-judgmental and sacred space for healing in your journey.

Eligibility

Any person or child who has been impacted by a crime within the boundaries of Hoopa Valley Tribe and 95546 zip code, such as, but not limited to: domestic violence, sexual assault, arson, bullying, burglary, elder abuse, child abuse and neglect, human trafficking, identity theft, robbery, and survivors of homicide Victims.

How Can We Help

When someone commits a crime against you, different levels of trauma are experienced. Coping with trauma is different for everyone and can impact is physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.  Hoopa Court Advocates are here to provide supportive, confidential, comprehensive services to you.

 

The Program recognizes the interconnectedness of all community members and the responsibility to nurture each other. We aim to promote restorative justice for the betterment of the whole community.

Advocacy

We strive to support you through your journey with the least amount of trauma to heal and strengthen.

We:

• Provide immediate assistance to survivors of crime to address their emotional, psychological, spiritual, and physical needs

• Provide interim support to survivors after a crime to stabilize their lives, including assistance with court orders and referrals to other programs

•  Provide confidential emotional and moral support

•  Conduct on the scene crisis intervention

• Support during interviews with law enforcement officers 

• Accompanying survivors to hospitals for medical examinations

• Safety and Wellbeing planning

• Act as a liaison between the victim, police officers, investigators, and service providers

•  Help prepare victims for court and provide court advocacy and accompaniment

• Intervention with administrative agencies, schools/colleges, tribal entities, and other circumstances to address the consequences of a person’s victimization (including verification of being homeless);

• Liaising with law enforcement prosecutor’s office, and Victim Witness Divisions

• Providing information on the Criminal Justice Process and Survivors’ rights

• Substance use disorder advocacy

• Indian Child Welfare advocacy/support.

Emergency Support

​

Services are provided to victims of crime that may include:

 

• Transportation

• Emergency Shelter

• Food Clothing

• Gas 

• Cell phone

• Eye Glass Repair

• Home Repair Support, such as lock and window replacement

Legal Assistance

​

We help qualifying victims of crime to receive assistance from an attorney in exercising their rights and navigating through legal matters. Our mission is to seek to protect victims' rights in the following areas:

                                 

•  Provide support prior and through court proceedings

• Answer questions for Survivors about their options for protecting themselves, their children, and property

• Assist with Victim Impact Statements

• File for Protection orders
